The defect has the potential to cause safety hazards in hot weather conditions. Models affected include the Chevy Silverado light duty and heavy duty pick-ups; Chevy Avalanche; Chevy Tahoe; and Chevy Suburban. GMC vehicles include the Sierra light and heavy duty pick-ups; and the Yukon and Yukon XL. Cadillac vehicles include the Escalade, Escalade ESV, and the Escalade EXT. The recall was issued for North American and exported vehicles. <\/p>\n<p>In a statement to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, General Motors described the safety issue;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The ignition lock actuator may bind, making turning the key difficult or causing the ignition to get stuck in the &#8216;start&#8217; position. If stuck in the &#8216;start&#8217; position, the ignition may suddenly snap back into the &#8216;accessory&#8217; position, causing a loss of engine, steering, and braking power, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
