The Consumer Product Safety Commission<\/a> (CPSC) reports a Trek <\/a>bicycle recall due to the crash hazard caused by a quick release lever on the front wheel hub. The personal injury attorneys<\/a> of Messa & Associates are being told that the recall includes Trek bikes equipped with front disc brakes that were sold over the last 15 years across the United States and Canada which have caused serious injury, including paralysis.<\/p>\n

Trek Bicycle Corporation of Waterloo, Wisconsin reports that the front wheel can come to a sudden stop or separate from the bike. Affected by this recall are bicycles that have a black or silver quick release lever on the front wheel hub that opens 180 degrees or far enough to contact the disc brake<\/strong>. Bikes fitting this description were sold between September 1999<\/strong> and April 2015<\/strong> and believe to total about 900,000 bikes in the United States and 98,000 in Canada. Bicycles with front quick release levers that don\u2019t open a full 180 degrees are not included in this recall.<\/p>\n

There have been 3 reports of injuries caused by bikes in the model year range from 2000 through 2015. Because of this risk, it is crucial that the use of affected bikes ceases immediately<\/strong>.\u00a0 Authorized Trek retailers are offering free installation of a new quick release and will provide a $20 coupon, redeemable through December 31, 2015, for Bontrager merchandise.
