A yellow tab left on the units during the manufacturing process has the potential to cover one of the detector&#8217;s two sensors, allowing for a potential failure of the alarm to detect smoke. <\/p>\n<p>The recall involves models PI2010 and PI9010 of the dual-sensor alarms. &#8220;KIDDE&#8221; can be found front and center on the unit, while the model number and date code (any date from 2016 Sep. 10 through 2017 Oct. 13) are printed on the back. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpsc.gov\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Consumer Product Safety Commission<\/a> has received one report of the yellow tab being present on a smoke detector before installation. Fortunately, no incidents or injuries that occurred as a result of the yellow tab&#8217;s presence have been reported. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.messalaw.com\/recall\/wp-content\/uploads\/kidde-alarms.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"743\" height=\"340\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-952\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.messalaw.com\/recall\/wp-content\/uploads\/kidde-alarms.jpg 743w, https:\/\/www.messalaw.com\/recall\/wp-content\/uploads\/kidde-alarms-300x137.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 743px) 100vw, 743px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The smoke detectors were sold at Menards, The Home Depot, Walmart, and other department and hardware stores nationwide. The detectors were also sold online at Amazon.com, ShopKidde.com, and in other online stores from September 2016 through January 2018 for between $20 and $40.  <\/p>\n<h2>Consumers&#8217; Next Step<\/h2>\n<p>Kidde is urging consumers to remove the alarm from its mounting to perform a visual inspection through the opening on the side of the alarm. If a yellow tab\/cap is present, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE IT YOURSELF. If a yellow cap is present, consumers should immediately contact Kidde to receive further instructions and to request a free replacement smoke alarm. If no yellow cap is present, consumers can feel free to re-mount the alarm with no further action need.<\/p>\n<p>Consumers can contact Kiddee toll-free at 833-551-7739 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m.to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. A photoelectric sensor more quickly detects smoldering fires that produce more smoke than flame at their onset.
