Personal Injury Attorneys at Messa & Associates, P.C. report the recall of “Deep Raw Cashew Pieces” by Chetak New York L.L.C. of Edison, NJ. A potential Salmonella contamination was discovered within packages that were distributed nationally between March 12, 2014 and October 21, 2014. The nuts were packaged in 7 oz., 14 oz., and 28oz. clear plastic packages with UPC numbers on the back. Recalled packages include the following UPC numbers:

  • 07 oz. packages –> 011433133104
  • 14 oz. packages –> 011433133111
  • 28 oz. packages –> 011433133128

Salmonella Poses Threat to Young, Elderly, and Ill

Salmonella is known to cause serious and sometimes fatal complications in children, elderly, and those with weakened immune systems, and while it is not as dangerous for healthy individuals, it can still cause severe issues. Healthy people can experience nausea, fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. In more severe cases, Salmonella can actually enter the bloodstream causing serious afflictions like endocarditis, arterial infections, and arthritis.

As of October 31, 2014 there have been no reports of illness, however it is important to withhold consumption of any products that fall within the realm of the recall.

Salmonella in the pre-packaged cashews was discovered during random testing carried out by the Food & Drug Administration.

Consumers can return the recalled packages to their point of purchase for a full refund or contact Chetak New York L.L.C. at 1-973-835-1906 from 9am-5pm EST for further information.
