1.6M BMWs Recalled Due to Fire Hazards

10/26/2018 By Angela Leone Leave a Comment

BMW has issued a recall of about 1.6M vehicles worldwide due to fire hazards caused by fluid leaks.

BMW said on Tuesday that in some diesel vehicle models, coolant could potentially leak from the exhaust gas re-circulation module. These leaks could combine with soot and at high temperatures, this could lead to a fire.

This most recent recall announcement by the German automaker is actually an extension of a previous recall in Asia and Europe of 480,000 vehicles for the same leak-related hazards.

Vehicles involved in the recall include models manufactured between 2010 and 2017. In their statement, BMW advised that all affected customers would be contacted regarding the issue and free repairs. The majority of affected customers are located in Asia and Europe. A little less than 55,000 vehicles are affected in the Unite States and Canada.
