Nissan Altimas Recalled Over Fire, Stall Risks

02/28/2019 By Angela Leone Leave a Comment

Nearly 24,000 2019 Nissan Altima sedans have been recalled to fix an improperly installed hose with the potential for fuel leaks. Fuel leaks raise the risk of fires and engine stalls, according the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

If the hose disconnects only partly, potential fuel leaks can lead to fire. If the hose fully disconnects, the loss of fuel to the engine would cause sudden engine stall, potentially leading to a crash. According to Nissan, no crashes or injuries have been reported related to the defective hose. The automaker says it became aware of the issue when a customer complained about the smell of fuel.

The automaker also says it became aware of the problem after a customer complained about the smell of fuel.

Nissan Altima Recall: DETAILS

Vehicles involved in the recall include 23,903 2019 Nissan Altimas manufactured from May 25, 2018 through October 30, 2018.

A clip that connects the fuel line to the fuel pump was negligently installed during assembly, leading to the potential for the clip to partly or fully disconnect. Depending on whether the clip partly or fully disconnects, this defect can cause fires and/or motor major collisions.

For consumers affected by this recall, Nissan dealers are offering free repairs of the hose and clip. Nissan began contacting Altima owners this month. If you are an Altima owner or lessee, you can call Nissan customer service at 800-867-7669 with questions or concerns.
