The personal injury attorneys at Messa & Associates, P.C. were recently made aware of a recall by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) of Lenovo computer power cords due to fire and burn hazards. The product affected by this Lenovo recall were manufactured in China from February 2011 to December 2011 and were sold at electronic stores, authorized dealers and online from February 2011 through June 2012 ranging in price from $350 to $1,500.
The Lenovo recall specifically involves power cords that were distributed with IdeaPad brand B-, G- S-, U-, V- and Z-series laptop computers and Lenovo brand B-, G-, and V- series laptop computers. The manufacture date code in the format REV: 00 YYMM is on a label attached to the cord. While no injuries were reported in the United States or Canada Lenovo did receive notice of 15 incidents throughout the world of sparking, melting, or burning. Luckily, no injuries were reported.
Lenovo Inc., of Morrisville, NC, is offering free replacement cords to all consumers affected by this recall. Replacements can be arranged by calling (800)426-7378 between 9am and 5pm ET or visiting their website. From the main page consumers can also click on the support button then through News and Alerts to the Recall tab for more information on replacing the device.
