General Electrics (GE) has issued a voluntary recall of about 35,500 of their Zoneline® Air Conditioners and Heating Units due an increased fire hazard.
A fire hazard is posed as moisture from outside air can accumulate near the unit’s heater. The moisture can short electrical components within the unit, creating an “electrical ground path and arcing, posing a risk of fire.”
The recalled units are generally used in hotels, apartment buildings, and commercial spaces. The GE logo can be found on the control panel door. The model and serial number label is located on the “rating plate” that can be found after removing the front plate. Model and serial numbers included in the recall are listed in the CPSC image below.
GE has received no reports of injury, however three incidents were reported involving smoke and/or fire associated with the unit heater.
