Personal injury attorneys at Messa & Associates have learned of the recent voluntary recall by MorningStar Farms® (MorningStar) of two types of black bean burgers due to an undeclared peanut allergen. MorningStar is a division of Kellogg Co. and sells vegetarian frozen patties. In addition to the recall, the company also issued an allergy alert for its Spicy Black Bean and Chipotle Black Bean frozen veggie burgers in the United States.
Recalled products include:
MorningStar was informed by a third party supplier that a spice ingredient used in both the spicy and chipotle black bean burgers may contain peanuts, a serious allergen that was not listed in the products’ ingredients. The error has the potential to cause life threatening health complications for those with serious peanut allergies.
The product was sold throughout the United States in retail stores and through food services. At this point, no adverse events have been reported.
