The products affected by this recall bare the lot number 340353F and an expiration date of October 2018. It is packaged in 100 mL, 6 g Vial, 4-pack NDC 00187-0007-14 which is meant to be reconstituted with 300 ml sterile water for injection or inhalation. The product is only intended to be administered by a small particle aerosol generator.
Virazole is generally used in hospitals to treat infants and young children with severe lower respiratory tract infections caused by respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). The inhalation of the non-sterile product with microbial contamination could increase the risk of severe respiratory infection, especially in those who are already immunocompromised due to illness or disease.
