Toyota and Hyundai are recalling a combined 110,000 trucks and SUVs, including the 2018 Toyota Tundra and Sequoia, and the 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport.
The recalled Toyotas, which total 64,900, are at risk for having their electronic stability control (ESC) systems shut down unexpectedly. ESC is a computerized technology that detects loss of traction and automatically applies brakes to help steer the vehicle where the driver intends to go.
Recalled Hyundai vehicles are at risk of for the steering wheel breaking away from the steering column.
Both Toyota and Hyundai plan to notify impacted car owners and will provide all necessary repairs free of charge.
Toyota recently recalled over 200,000 2016-17 Tundras for rear differential problems that caused drivers to lose control of the truck. Last year, Hyundai recalled more than 500,000 vehicles, including Santa Fes, for problems with hood latches and parking break lights. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
