On February 19, Contigo USA issued it’s second recall of nearly six million Contigo Kids Cleanable water bottles, six months after the first announcement was made in August 2019. Replacement lids that were distributed to affected consumers as part of the first recall are also including in the February 2020 recall.
The Contigo water bottles are being recalled for choking hazards. The company has received 427 reports of the spouts detaching. In twenty-seven incidences, spouts were found in children’s mouths. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injury or death related to the recalled Contigo water bottles.
Exactly what Contigo water bottles are affected?
The recalled water bottles were sold at Costco, Walmart, Target, and other stores nationwide, and on various websites from April 2018 through February 7, 2020 for between $9 and $24. The recalled bottles will only have BLACK colored bases under the spout. Bottles with different colored bases underneath the spouts are not included in this recall.
The bottles came in three sizes (13oz, 14oz, and 20oz.) and for color types (solid color, graphics, stainless steel, and stainless steel solid colors). There were sold individually and in packs of two or three.
