Medical Malpractice Lawyers Report FDA Investigation of Fresenius Medical Care

Fresenius Medical Care, the largest operator of dialysis centers in the country, is being investigated by the Food and Drug Administration to determine if it violated federal regulations by failing to inform customers of life-threatening risks associated with its GranuFlo product. GranuFlo is used by thousands of dialysis patients who receive care at Fresenius centers and is sold through Fresenius’s products division. Medical malpractice lawyers have recently learned of the serious side effects of this product.

According to an internal memo sent to doctors practicing in the company’s dialysis centers last year, failure to properly use GranuFlo had been a contributing factor to a sharp increase in the risk of patients dying suddenly from cardiac arrest. More than one third of Americans who receive dialysis treat at Fresenius Medical Care. Their products, including GranuFlo, are also used at other dialysis centers around the world.

The FDA said it could issue a warning letter to Fresenius if it is determined that they should have reported the safety concerns.

Medical Malpractice Lawyers Discuss Failure to Warn Cases and Drug Product Injuries

In failure to warn cases, the typical issue is that a pharmaceutical or medical treatment company, such as Fresenius, knew about a potential risk of a drug or product and failed to disclose those risks to their customers. In these cases, the company may be held responsible for injuries caused to the patient. Often times, dangerous drug products can cause additional serious injuries such as heart failure, stroke, liver damage or death.
