Fatal Building Collapse in the Fairhill Neighborhood of Philadelphia
Philadelphia firefighters were called to a pizza parlor in Fairhill around 2 a.m. on Saturday the 18th after being notified of a fire.
Witnesses stated that they did not see flames, only smoke, leading them to believe the situation was under control. It wasn’t until a little over an hour later that the building collapsed, trapping five firefighters and a city inspector in the rubble.
Only five of the six trapped made it out alive. Lieutenant. Sean Williamson, a Philadelphia firefighter for 27 years, did not survive the collapse.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and while the building had been affected by the fire, the final reason behind the collapse has not been determined.
Messa & Associates would like to send their deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Lt. Williamson. We are lucky to have heroes in our community who put their lives at risk to protect others.
