On Thursday, November 16th, a five-alarm fire broke out at the Barclay Friends assisted living facility in West Chester, PA, displacing over 130 elderly residents and injuring 27. In the early morning hours of Friday, November 17th, four missing residents were presumed dead according to a statement from the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). Yesterday, the remains of two of those missing persons were found.
The missing residents included a married couple, an 89 year-old wife and her 92 year-old husband, and two women aged 85 and 93. Their names have not been released.
What Caused the Five Alarm Fire at a Chester County Assisted Living Facility?
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the extensive and deadly fire in Chester County, PA. Investigators are expected to continue working through the Thanksgiving Holiday in order to determine a cause.
“The thoughts and prayers of the men and women of ATF are with the families of the victims during this difficult time,” Special Agent in Charge Donald Robinson said in the statement. “Their losses only strengthen our resolve to provide answers to them as a result of our investigation of this tragedy.”
