The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently announced an IKEA recall of nearly one million KULLEN 3-drawer chests for posing tip-over and entrapment hazards that may result in serious injury or even death to children. IKEA has received a total of six-reports of KULLEN related tip-over incidents, including one report of a minor cut and one report of minor cuts and bruises.
The chests were sold at IKEA stores nationwide and online from April 2005 to December 2019 for around $60. The chests were available in colors called “black-brown” and “birch.” The units weigh approximately 45 pounds. Article numbers involved in the recall include;
- 600-930-58;
- 501-637-54; and
- 803-221-34.
Next Steps for Consumers affected by the IKEA Recall
IKEA is urging all affected consumers to immediately discontinue use of any KULLEN 3-drawer chests that are not properly anchored to the wall. These furniture units should be moved to rooms that children cannot access. IKEA is offering two remedy options to customers;
- FULL REFUND: Customers can make in-store returns or arrange for free pick-up of the chests.
- FREE ANCHOR KITS: Consumers can order their free anchor kit online and either install the kits themselves or schedule a one-time, free, in-home installation service.
