  • Texas Mom Dies after Falling From Amusement Park Ride at Six Flags

Philadelphia personal injury attorneys report that officials at Six Flags Entertainment Corp. are investigating the cause of a roller coaster accident that led to the death of Rosa Ayala-Goana, a 52-year-old Dallas resident and mother. According to reports, the woman fell from the Texas Giant roller coaster at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington last Friday. Witnesses say that Ayala-Goana told workers that the safety bar had not completely engaged just moments before the 14-story ride began.

The medical examiner’s office confirmed that Ayala-Goana suffered “multiple traumatic injuries” during the fall that caused her death. Executives at Six Flags said that the ride has been closed and is expected to remain closed until officials were certain it was safe to ride again.

Personal Injury Attorneys Give Tips on Amusement Park Ride Safety to Help Prevent Injuries to Children and Other Riders

In 2011, there were 1,415 injuries reported by amusement and theme park visitors, according to the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions with 61 of those people requiring some form of overnight treatment at a hospital. Experts say that injuries from amusement park rides can include whiplash, neck and back injuries, heart attacks, broken bones and internal injuries. In more severe cases, head, brain or spinal cord injury can occur as well as death.

The IAAPA and The Center of Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children’s Hospital suggest utilizing these safety tips to help prevent injuries on amusement park rides:

  • Check and follow any guidelines regarding age, height, weight, and health restrictions.
  • Read all posted ride safety rules, including any special seating rules or loading instructions.
  • Keep hands, arms, legs and feet inside the ride at all times.
  • Remain seated in the ride until it comes to a complete stop and you are instructed to exit.
  • Follow instructions given by ride operators or provided by recorded announcements.
  • Use any safety equipment provided and do not wriggle free of or loosen restraints or other safety devices.
