Personal Injury Attorneys Alert Consumers of Another Johnson & Johnson Defective Product Recall

philadelphia personal injury attorneys, medical malpractice lawyers, philly, paPhiladelphia personal injury attorneys recently learned that Johnson & Johnson’s parent company, McNeil Consumer Healthcare, has announced that it is recalling 53,892 packages of Imodium Multi-Symptom Relief, an over-the-counter medicine for diarrhea, gas, bloating and cramps.

According to Johnson & Johnson, the defective Imodium packages may be torn, exposing the medication to air and affecting its ability to provide the intended benefits.

Only Imodium packages with the lot number CMF023 have been recalled.

Personal Injury Attorneys Remind Consumers of Johnson & Johnson’s History of Quality Control Issues

McNeil’s quality control problems stem back to at least 2004. The newest recall is among at least 40 products that Johnson & Johnson has had in the past few years, including a recall of seven lots of grape-flavored Infants Tylenol earlier this year and the largest recall of children and infant medicine in history.

Johnson & Johnson had also admitted to a “stealth” recall of at least one product after it was found to be deficient. The product was produced at the company’s Fort Washington McNeil plant which had been repeatedly criticized by the FDA for its deficiencies. That plant has been closed since April 2010 after a recall was initiated whenr some of McNeil’s products were allegedly contaminated with foreign materials due to an equipment-cleaning problem. Company officials said earlier this year that repairs to the Fort Washington plant will run at least through the end of 2013, meaning products won’t leave the facility until sometime in 2014.

The defective Imodium was produced at the McNeil plant in Lancaster.
