Personal Injury Attorneys: Safety Report Concluded Recalls on Children’s Products, Potential for Injuries to Children Has Risen

Child safety advocacy group, Kids in Danger, recently released a report examining safety recalls on children’s products throughout 2013 and the effectiveness of 2012 recalls in removing unsafe products from homes. The group said that the number of children’s products recalled increased 18 percent from 2012 to 2013. They also reported that there was an increase in the number of incident-related deaths. The group also expressed concern over the amount of recalled products that are actually returned, replaced or repaired—just 10 percent.

The advocacy group pointed at factors such as the amount of time it takes for a recall of defective products to be issued as a reason for the elevated number of injuries to children and deaths. Additionally, the group said that companies and regulators could make more efforts to publicize recalled defective products, such as the use of social media to get information out to consumers. The report also called on companies to generate as much publicity about product recalls as they do about the products.
