  • Personal Injury Lawyers Warn Parents of Infant Travel Bed Recall Following the Death of a Five-Month-Old Baby Boy

KidCo Inc. is recalling approximately 220,000 infant travel beds following the death of an infant who became entrapped inside of the company’s Pea Pod Travel Crib. The five-month-old boy was put in the travel crib with his twin sister for a nap in December 2011. In addition to the death of the infant child, nine other children have also been injured or found in distress while inside of the sleep tents.

The Pea Pod Travel Crib has an air mattress that fits into a zippered pocket in the floor of the domed tent, which collapses to allow for easy transport. However, if the mattress is placed in the floor of the tent, an infant’s head could lodge between the mattress and the tent’s side, making breathing impossible, raising the risk of suffocation or causing other serious injuries to children inside the travel bed.

Both the KidCo PeaPod Travel Beds and PeaPod Plus Travel Beds are being recalled. The KidCo travel tents have been sold at independent juvenile specialty stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com since January 2005 for between $70 and $100.

Personal Injury Lawyers Remind Parents of Product Testing Guidelines for Infants

The Consumer Product Safety Commission regulates safety standards for products and requires that products meet certain guidelines. However, the Pea Pod Travel Crib was not required to be tested for safety standards because it’s not a crib or a bassinette or a play yard. Therefore, consumer safety advocates have warned parents against using KidCo’s Pea Pod Travel Crib.
