  • Lawsuit Filed in Amusement Park Injury at Morey’s Piers in Wildwood

Philadelphia personal injury lawyers say a lawsuit has been filed on behalf of a New Jersey girl who was injured after a pole fell on her at an amusement-park ride. Gia Mastroserio, who was 13-years-old at the time of the accident, was riding in the rear seat of Morey’s Sea Dragon, a ride at Morey’s Piers in Wildwood.

Gia was struck by a part of the tall steel pole at the center of the ride when it broke off and fell onto the gondola she was in on Aug. 19, 2011. She suffered injuries to her face, hands, and arms. The complaint filed alleges that Morey’s was negligent because Chance Rides Inc., maker of the Sea Dragon, had warned amusement parks to remove or inspect the pole because it could collapse. The pole is made to look like a ship’s mast but serves no structural function.

Gia’s accident occurred just 10 weeks after an 11-year-old girl died when she fell from the giant Ferris wheel at Morey’s.

Personal Injury Lawyers Remind Families to Use Caution at Amusement Parks to Help Prevent Injuries to Children

Each year, hundreds of people suffer injuries on rides at amusements parks. Those injuries range from minor cuts and bruises to more severe injuries such as whiplash, neck and back injuries, heart attacks, broken bones and internal injuries. In addition, head, brain or spinal cord injuries can occur as well as death.

Last month, a 52-year-old Dallas mother fell to her death from a roller coaster at Six Flags Entertainment Corp. According to reports, the woman fell from the Texas Giant roller coaster at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, and had been overheard complaining that the safety bar had not completely engaged just moments before the 14-story ride began.
