6 Million Keurig Coffee Brewers RECALLED

Keurig is recalling 6.6 million K-Cup coffee brewers after the company received 90 reports of burn related injuries. In a statement released Tuesday, the company said, “Hot liquid could escape from certain MINI Plus Brewing System units during use…if the brewer is used to brew more than two cups in quick succession.”

The recalled coffee makers have an identification number located on a white sticker on the bottom of the device. The items in question were sold between December 2009 and July 2014 with model number K10 at Kmart, Kohl’s, Target, Walmart, and directly from Keurig Green Mountain.

Keurig is shipping free repair kits to consumers in possession of the recalled brewers, including “a brewer handle attachment and a replacement K-Cup holder which prevents hot water from escaping.” Consumers should visit the company’s recall landing page for information on how to report their item and receive a free repair kit.

Affected consumers may also call toll-free at (215) 568-3500 Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (Eastern Time) and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (Eastern Time), though the call center will be closed on New Year’s Day.

A spokesperson from Keurig said that consumers can continue using their brewers but should “avoid brewing more than two cups in rapid succession and maintain an arm’s length distance from the brewer during the brewing process.”
