Over 60,000 Mazda6 vehicles have been recalled by Mazda due to a wiring issue with the power steering and airbags.
A recall notice posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) referenced “excessive weld splatter” on the front passenger seat frame. Over time, this spatter could interfere with sensor wires, causing a short-circuit which would trigger warning lights and a potential loss of power steering and airbags.
The recall includes Mazda6 vehicles manufactured between November 3, 2014 and December 9, 2015. Fortunately, at this time, there are no reports of loss of control, accidents, or injuries related to this issue.
Mazda6 owners affected by the recall can expect a notification from Mazda on September 29, 2017. Free repairs will include a protective pad on the seat frame and/or insulating tape to avoid further wear.
