IKEA has recalled 840,000 ceiling lamps have 224 incidents were reported of the glass fixtures falling from the ceiling and shattering one the ground. Glass shards caused injuries in 11 of the 224 reports. The CPSC investigation showed that plastic clips that secure the glass shade to the lamp housing can break, which is what allows the glass to fall to the ground and pose a laceration hazard.
The ceiling lamps involved in the recall are the IKEA HYBY and LOCK ceiling lamps. They white-frosted, dome shaped glass shades an three plastic clips that attached the shade to a steel lamp housing. The HYBY model (type no. T1011) holds two light bulbs while the LOCK model (type no. T0201) holds one.
The HYBY lamp was sold at IKEA stores worldwide and in IKEA’s online store from October 2012 through January 201 for about $13. The LOCK lamp was sold online and in IKEA stores worldwide from November 2002 through January 2016 for about $5.
