LayZ Board Hoverboards blamed for Harrisburg house fire that claimed the lives of two young children

05/02/2017 By Angela Leone Leave a Comment

This morning, ABC News reported that federal safety regulators (the Consumer Product Safety Commission) have officially linked two deaths in a Harrisburg, PA house fire in March to a Chinese manufactured hoverboard called LayZ Board.

The self-balancing scooters were manufactured in Shenzen, China. More than 3,000 units have been imported into the United States. While many hoverboards have been reported to catch fire while in use or while plugged into an electrical source to charge, LayZ Board brand boards are the first to be officially linked to fire deaths.

The CPSC is urgins consumers of ALL AGES to stop using and charging their LayZ Board brand hoverboards. Consumers who wish to dispose of the boards are instructed to take them to a local recycling center for safe and proper handling of the lithium-ion battery. In an effort to prevent future injury or death, the CPSC also urges the public to share this warning with family & friends and among all social networks.

It is important to note that this warning refers to LayZ Board brand hoverboards and not those similarly named, Lazyboard.

In a May 1st release, the CPSC thanked the Harrisburg fire department and the families affected by the tragic fire for their time and cooperation in the federal investigation.
