Mayborn USA Recalls 3.1M Spill-Proof Cups Due to Risk of Mold

Mayborn USA has issued a voluntary recall of more than 3.1M spill-proof cups due to the potential for mold to develop on the one-piece valve inside the cups. Five types of cups, which are sold under the Tommee Tippee Sippee Cup brand name, are affected by the recall.

The five types include: First Sips Transition cup, Trainer Sippee cup, Sippee cup (including Cute Quips), Sportee bottle and Insulated Swiggle/Sippee tumblers. The plastic drinking cups have spill-proof tops, easy-grip sides with detachable handles and were sold in clear with colored lids and a variety of colors and character prints.

Three Thousand Incidents of Mold Reported

The recall was prompted by over 3,000 reports of mold in the removable valve of the spill-proof cups, including 68 reports of children experiencing diarrhea, vomiting or other symptoms associated with drinking from the moldy cups.

The cups were sold for between $4 and $7 from December 2014 through May 2016 at BuyBuy BabyCVSKohl’sTargetWalgreensWal-Mart and other mass merchandise stores nationwide. The cups were also sold online at Amazon.comBabyhaven.com, and Diapers.com.
