CPSC: Pali Design Recalls Children’s Furniture

06/10/2015 By Kathleen Britt Leave a Comment

There has been a lot of buzz lately about the safety of children’s furniture and the dangers that can arise when  not secured and anchored correctly.  The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently announced a recall of Pali Design products due to their potential to tip over causing possible severe injuries, suffocation or death.

Pali Design Inc. of Canada is reporting that the restraint straps on select armoires, combos, dressers and hutches can break causing the unit to tip over. A nearby child could suffer injuries ranging from soft tissue damage to broken bones to more severe head injuries, suffocation or even death. One incident has been reported but luckily there were no injuries.

According to the CPSC approximately 18,000 units in the United States and 2,160 units in Canada are affected by this recall.  The Vietnam manufactured furniture was sold from January 2006 through September 2010 at independent specialty stores nationwide. The Karla collection was sold exclusively at Babies R Us.

In order to protect the safety of children the Personal Injury Attorneys of Messa & Associates P.C. advise parents to check the furniture in shared spaces and nurseries.  If any of the mentioned products are found in the house it is recommended that they are moved out of the reach of children. Pali Design is offering a free retrofit kit that contains newly designed restraint straps as well as mounting hardware and installation instructions. For more information consumers can call toll free at (866)840-4140 Monday through Friday from 9am-5pm ET. Questions can also be emailed to customerservice@pali-design.com. More information can also be found on the company’s website.
