Playtex has recalled a line of over 5 million plates and bowls for children due to choking hazards posed by peeling plastic.
The children’s line of tableware is made of white polyporopylene and has various printed designs, including but not limited to cars, construction scenes, giraffes, princesses, and superheros. The items contain a colored rim on top, a non-slip bottom, and a clear plastic layer over the graphics that can bubble and peel, posing a choking hazard for children eating off of the plate.
The items were sold at Babies ‘R’ Us, Target, Walmart, and other stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com from October 2009 through October 2017. Pieces were sold individually for about $2.50, or as a Mealtime Set for $15.00.
Playtex’s recall was prompted by 372 reports of clear plastic bubbling on the plates. The company received 11 reports of pieces of clear plastic found in children’s mouths, and four reports of children choking on a piece of the clear plastic layer.
What Should I do if I own these recalled plates?
