Walmart recently issued a large scale recall of 1.2 million Rival brand electric water kettles after reports that the kettles’ heating element can fail and rupture, posing serious burn and shock hazards to consumers.
Walmart Recalls Rival Brand Water Kettle after 80 Incident Reports
The massive recall was prompted by 80 incident reports that Walmart received, citing the failure of the water kettle’s heating element, following by rupture and electric shock. Walmart received seven reports of consumers being burned by the defective kettle.
The recalled Rival water kettles are white plastic and sold with a warming base and pitcher. The kettles also have product labels on the underside, where model numbers are located. If you own a white Rival brand water kettle but you aren’t sure if your item is included in the recall, check the label for one of the following model numbers:
- WK8283CU
- WK8283CUY
The kettles were sold exclusively at Walmart stores nationwide and online at Walmart.com from March 2011 through October 2015 for around $14.00.
