Weight-Loss Supplement Recalled After Random Testing Detects Dangerous & Unapproved Ingredients

lucy's recallAn online supplement company, Lucy’s Weight-Loss System , is voluntarily recalling all lots of their weight loss supplements Pink Bikini and Shorts on the Beach after random FDA testing turned up two banned ingredients; Sibutramine and Phenolphthalein.

Sibutramine is an appetite suppressant known to cause major & dangerous increases in blood pressure and heart rate. The ingredient was also found in Abbott Labratories’ weight-loss drug Meridia that was pulled from the market in 2010 due to increased risk of heart attack and stroke.

Phenolphthalein has been categorized by the FDA as “not generally recognized as safe and effective.” The drug used to be included in over-the-counter laxatives but was banned in the US after the FDA determined that it might be associated with an increased risk of cancer after long-term use. The chemical is also potentially capable of damaging or even mutating a persons’s DNA.

The capsules come in gold and blue and were sold online in May and June of 2015. Each bottle displays a July 2017 expiration date.

Lucy’s Weight Loss system has said it will notify customers by e-mail about the recall and arrange for the products’ return. In the meantime, consumers are urged to immediately discontinue use. Consumers are also urged to seek medical advice regarding have problems or complications after taking the drug.
