Whirlpool Corporation has issued a recall of over 15,000 microwave hood combination units. There is a risk of internal arcing during use that can ignite an internal plastic component, creating a fire hazard.
Whirlpool issued the recall after receiving reports of incidents that included fires involving the surrounding cabinetry, reports of smoke and burning odors as well as one house fire.
The affected units were sold in black, white and stainless steel from January 2014 through April 2016, ranging in price from $370 to $470. The microwaves were sold at HH Gregg, Sears, Lowes, Best Buy and other home appliance and retail stores.
The following is a list of the model numbers and associated serial numbers that are included in the recall. A complete list can be found on Whirlpool’s website at repair.whirlpool.com.
Model numbers and serial numbers are located on the inside of the unit, on the left hand side, above the oven cavity.
