The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has reported a ZETA battery pack recall. As described in the February 12, 2015 CPSC recall, ZETA by Jackco Pocket Jumper Starter Deluxe Set has the potential to overheat and catch fire posing a hazard. Jackco Transitional Inc., of Azusa, California has notified the CPSC that The ZETA Pocket Jumper Starter-Deluxe Set has the likelihood to ignite unexpectedly. The battery pack can be used to jumpstart vehicles, charge cellphones, tablets, laptops and other devices. According to the recall, the battery pack can overheat, split apart, and melt the battery pack’s enclosure. There have been nearly 500 reported incidents of product failure out of the 5,000 that were distributed at retailers across the United States as well as on Amazon.com. Of the 500, two cases caused property damage. Luckily, there has been no reports of personal injury.
The affected ZETA Pocket Jumper Starter-Deluxe Sets were manufactured in China and distributed from July 2014 through January 2015. The products ranged in price from $110 to $140 both online and in stores. The set comes in a black canvas case with red trim and black handles and measures 9 inches long and 8.5 inches wide by 3 inches deep and weighs approximately 2 pounds. Marked with ZETA in red and blue letters on the front of the case, the inside is black mesh and contains mini jumper clamps, a universal cable for laptop charging, 12V accessory cable and USB cable with adapters. The batter pack itself has three power ports including 19 volt, 12 volt, and 5 volt. The battery can be plugged into an AC wall outlet or a 12-volt car charger for recharging. On the back of the battery pack is a silver product label with Model Number ZT50420 printed in black. Under this is a second label containing the date code: XM201407XXXXXX, which translates to July 2014 which is the date of manufacture.

Consumers with receipts will be refunded the full purchase price and those without receipt will receive $110.
